One way to save money on shipping is by shopping around for insurance. Did you know that you don't have to use the insurance the carrier provides? You can use a third-party for parcel insurance.
Right now I am working on setting up an account with a third-party company for our insurance. Candi Booth at U-Pic has offered some really good rates for small companies.
Fed-Ex - .20 cents per $100 after the first $100
USPS - .45 cents per $100
LTL - .55 cents per $100
For packages we are shipping via USPS the U-Pic rate is about .20 cents per $100 less than Endicia. I had been told that Endicia had the best rates. So as you can see, it's worth looking around.
My book, "Shipping Secrets" is almost completed! Just a few more days until everyone can have all the step by step details to save tons of money and time on shipping their packages.
U-Pic has moved away from the smaller eBay seller. They told me I needed to pay then a minimum of $20.00 per month and a rate of $0.50 per DVU to get coverage or just use Endicia. Apparantly my 100 shipments per month were not high enough.
Instead, I signed up with DSI Insurance and pay well under $0.50 per DVU, and they paid my first claim in 5 days. Plus, they integrate with Endicia, too!
