Spring Dollars

I just want to remind each one of you to take advantage of our Spring Dollars promotion.

Spring Dollars to boost your sales and profits. Our Bonus Dollar promotion last fall was such a huge success we've decided to have a Spring Dollar promotion.  From March 1 to April 1(2008) you will receive a Spring Dollar coupon with each order over $100.

Minimum Orders

We have inquiries everyday via the internet and phone, as to our minimum order

requirements. It's only $25.00, the minimum does not apply to samples, and the

majority of our products come in cases of 4.  Generally there are three type of

responses...either the potential client is thrilled,  or they are shocked, or

there's a sort of  attitude that perhaps our company is not large enough for the

large potential client to deal with us.

Dozens of orders go out our doors weekly...some just a small box of samples,

and others are pallets stacked with boxes.  When first started in business and

only had a few clients, I was constantly faced with either having to order a gross

of something to get a wholesale price when I only needed a dozen or to pay retail

to get only a dozen.  I vowed to keep my minimums low and affordable as I grew

for those companies and entreprenures trying to start at the ground floor.

Today that decision is even more important for many of my clients who are trying

to survive the impact of our economy on retail shopping.

The small case size allows retailers to carry as little inventory as possible. 

You do need to plan you purchasing with thought, as you need to allow the 12 to

18 business day turn around for us to make your product, but in doing so you can

really manage within your budget and still offer your customers a large variety of

products and fragrances.  Work at having small displays of products that look

attractive and inviting, but not so small that it looks like a clearance sale.  We

added combo cases of liquid products (two 2 oz, one 4 oz and one 8 oz bottle)

quite some time ago as it makes it affordable for a small shop to have a nice

display of sizes without buying several cases.

Here are a few ideas to help you with displaying products.

....Don't make the display cluttered..sometime less can be more.

.... Make your products the most important part of the display..not the props.

....Good lighting is important If the display is in a corner perhaps you could add
a lamp to the display..again, the lamp is a prop so make sure it's not the most
important item in your display.

....I always like to have different heights in my displays..you could possibly stack
products on each other, or cover boxes with paper or fabric as cheap risers for
you display.

...Use your imagination.  Make the display really interesting, or give it a twist
and engage your customers mind.  Perhaps group things together so perhaps
they'll buy one item to go with another.  Chocolate candles with gourmet
chocolates.

...Somtimes it helps to come up with a theme first, and then build the display
around that theme or idea so that your display is focused.

...Colors..

Entreprenuer.com has some wonderful ideas..one of their ideas
" A good way to get display ideas is to look around when visiting other retail
shops. Go to other towns and look at shops similar to yours. You may not want
to copy their ideas exactly, but it may trigger a new idea for you. See what
appeals to you and make a note of it. Likewise, note things you don't like,
so you won't make the same mistakes."

Paraben Free Body Cremes

Ultra Body Creme is one of our most popular creme because it has  thick, whipped texture, soy & shea butter moisture, and it's Paraben Free.  Choose from many sizes, high or low profile jars, and over 250 scents.  Hawaiian Mango, just created this January is promising to be one of our most popular scents this spring.

Many of our clients have been requesting paraben free sugar scrub products.  Here's some information you may not know about parabens. Parabens-- such as propylparaben, ethylparaben and butylparaben--are synthetic preservatives commonly used in cosmetics and personal care items. They are suspected to be endocrine disruptors, and they have been found to mimic estrogen in laboratory experiments. Many people have allergic reactions to these preservatives causing skin rashes and irritation. Needless to say, there is a great ongoing debate as to the safety of products containing parabens. Our sugar scrubs are now paraben free.  We are using a blend of Rosemary Oleoresin, Vitamin E and Honey as a preservative in all our sugar scrubs.  Our regular line of spa products has has paraben free lotions, body butter sticks, ultra body creme, massage candles, and massage oils.

What exactly are massage oil candles?
Massage oil candles are a new type of candle
which we hand pour with fine cosmetic
ingredients instead of paraffin candle wax.
Because of soy wax unique formulation,
these massage oil candles have a very
low melt point, becoming a warm lotion
that is just over body temperature.
These candles melt to become
comfortably warm, but never hot.

You can find several massage candles
on the market made with a variety
of ingredients. The very basic contain

Turning Holiday Customers into Returning Customers, Part 3

The third part of my plan here at Springdale Spa requires a little

more work and planning.I've added a new section to our website...

Sales and Specials.  In this section I am offering a new product

or products each and every month, and at a discounted

price during that month.  This I am hoping will entice them

to visit the website at least once a month to get great buys on

new products. The more often a client visits you, the greater

the chance they will buy from you. That section also has a

Weekly Sales good on Friday, Saturday,

and Sunday.  That sale

is usually more appealing to our Returning Customers who

are already trying to take advantage of all our discounts and

special buys year round.  It's a really great way to build

customer loyalty when you offer a good discount on

regular products each week.. I actually modified a sale

one of my suppliers offers on Saturdays each week.

Turning Holiday Customers into Returning Customers, Part 2

So, part one of my plan to increase spring sales with

our 2007 holiday sales is to offer a coupon.  For every

$100 a customer spends between August 1st and

December 1st they will receive a coupon for $5.00

off on their orders between January 1st and March 1st.

They will be allowed to use all their coupons on one

order if they wish. 

On the 15th of December each customer will receive a

letter from Springdale Spa indicating the total of their

coupons, and a sneak peak of the January and

February sale items and new products to kick off

our spring season.

I am sure this will turn a good percentage of our

new seasonal customers into repeat clients.

Next week I'll share part 2 and 3 of my plan

to increase spring sales.

Selling Body Chocolates

The key to selling Springdale Spa gourmet  Body Chocolates,

our Body Chocolate retailers say, is letting people feel how great

it is on their skin, and experience the fabulous chocolate scents.

While customers look for what they want, you want them to start

sampling. They can smell their way through the body products

as they browse. Even if they don't buy something, if they love

chocolate you know they'll be back. Ultimately, if you let customers

sample, you sell.

Samplings are very important.  If people look at a product

but don't know what's in it, they might pass it by.

Always put out samples of new products, and samples

every day for people who might be new to your store or

business. Springdale Spa makes it easy and affordable

to let your customers sample Body Chocolates with

two ounce size products, and or Body Chocolate

The more you educate yourself about your products,

the better you will be able to sell it. Your best resource is

We recommend bringing in a complete line of gourmet

Body Chocolates from one or two suppliers, rather than

one item each from several different suppliers. A full line

from just one or two suppliers has better presence on a shelf.

Body Chocolates to pamper your clients from head to toe.

Once a client has purchased a Body Chocolate products and likes it,

she/he will be more apt to try different things from the same line.

If you have other options from that line of Body Chocolates,

it will give people an opportunity to try something different from

a brand they already know and like.

I always think it's fun and attractive to have a simple display of

good quality gourmet edible chocolates near or with your

Body Chocolates.

Pairing gourmet edible chocolate in a keepsake container

with Body Chocolates  makes an attractive gift ready to give

gift. When placing edible chocolate in a store with Body Chocolates,

and or other fragrant  types of gifts, be careful not to put them 

too close to un chocolate scented items.  Edible chocolate

can  absorb odors, and people might not find it appealing if it

smells like gardenia, or lavender.

During holidays you might try grouping all the special holiday

items together on a table that you've made the focal point of the

room.  You might also send out fliers before important holidays

or have special sampling nights.

Gift baskets are very important.  Depending upon what types

of chocolate you are displaying you could put in  a chocolate soap,

a chocolate candle or two, truffles, caramels, a chocolate bath soak

chocolate lotion and maybe a book on chocolate.  You can have these

beautifully packaged items around the store. Walk around with your

customer and pull together a gift basket, and your customer can be

out the door in 15 minutes. If you take a chocolate basket and

give it to a woman for any occasion, no matter what her age

she's going to love it.

Turning Holiday Customers into Returning Customers

As you start preparing in your business for the 2007 holiday season,

you might think about how you can increase your sales and profits

during the holiday season and beyond.  That's what I'm doing

here at Springdale Spa .

With gas prices at an all time-high, the the prediction that they will

rise even higher we all need the right marketing plan, great ideas,

and just the right store or website promotions. 

As an indedpendent retailer you can be not only successful

during this holiday season, but you can also use the holidays as a

springboard to a profitable 2008! (Yes, I did say 2008....we are already

half way there)

We all have basically two type of customers.  First is the seasonal

customer. Each year you have to find a replacement for this customer.

Most retailers advertise heavily to get these temporary customers

into their store, onto their website etc.  These buyers may or may not

buy something this season.  They also might not ever return to your

store or website unless you spend alot of marketing dollars to lure

them back.

The other type of customer your returning customer.  I was in outside

telecommunication sales for 15 years before I started by business here

at Springdale Spa  I know from those years a very valuable thing about

customers and customer care.  It cost's about 3 times as much to gain

a new customer, as it does to keep the ones you have.  With proper

customer care and attention, these will be loyal customers regardless

of what season you are in.

to big corporate stores who could afford to purchase huge
quantities of merchandise. All of that has changed, and
today even the small independent retailer can take advantage
of having their own Private Label products.

While all of our customers love the current moisture rich
Body Lotions with beeswax and glycerin we are discontinuing
this formula as many clients are desiring a thicker lotion.

In keeping with the trends and customer requests
we'll be offering two new formulas. Our first and basic
lotion is considerably thicker, and still contains aloe vera,
glycerin, and grapeseed oil.

The second new lotion is 89% organic and contains
hemp oil.  This will be featured in our Basic Elements
section where we are offering more natural and
organic bath and body products.

Soy Candle Care

If you are going to retail soy candles it's important
to educate your customers on the proper burning
of soy candles.  With proper burning most 100%
soy candles will burn atleast 10 hours per ounce.

Here are easy instructions for getting the most
out of soy candles.

Remove any packaging and read all instructions.

Place on a safe heat resistant dry surface.

Trim wick to 1/4" before lighting. Smoking
or fluttering may occur if the wick is too long.

Avoid drafts for even burning.

If wick is too short, push away some wax
from the unlit wick. Allow to burn
for a couple hours.

For each inch in diameter, a candle should
be burned approximately one hour. It's
important for soy container candles to be
burned until the wax pools the entire way
across the container with each burning.

Do not burn soy candles for more than 3
or 4 hours for the maxium life of the candle
