History of Sugar Scrubs
How much do you know about the history of sugar and it's first use as a beauty product?
Generally, it's thought that around 20,000 BC, people in the islands of the South
Pacific were the first to find the sugar in sugar cane that grew naturally in their area.
However, India was the first country to extract natural cane juice to make the very first crude sugar, which they called "gur" (loosely translated as "tasting sweet") in 500 BC. Sometime in 510 BC the
Emperor Darius of what was then Persia invaded India where he found what they described as "the reed
which gives honey without bees". Scientists have found writings from the fourth century indicating the use of sugar. Egyptian hieroglyphics dating clear back at least 3,000 years indicate that the art of sugar confectionery was already established. The first record of sugar cane in the Western world was not until in 327 BC. I'll be blogging more sugar information in a few days. Linda
