More History on Sugar Scrubs
In 95 AD, in a document entitled "Periplus Maris Erythraei", (or "Guide Book to the Red Sea"), an unknown merchant said there is "Exported commonly....Honey of reeds which is called sakchar."
This is possibly the first mention in European history of the use of sugar cane as an article of commerce.
Sugar cane is mentioned in Chinese and Russian records between 200 and 600 AD and it is believed that sugar cane was introduced into Spain and Egypt around the eighth century.
Roman empress, Poppea Sabina, AD 65, the second wife of Nero, was said to have used a honey, sugar, and milk lotion on her face as a beauty treatment.
Legendary beauties throughout the centuries have used sugar and honey as part of their skin and hair care treatments. Ancient Egyptians developed a concoction of sugar, lemon and water for hair removal, known today as sugaring. There are several spas who offer this hair removal treadment, which leaves your skin very smooth.
Sugar has antiseptic qualities, which means it does not create bumpy, day-after pustules around the treated area. And unlike waxing, sugaring is water soluble, so when the treatment is finished, there are no little bits of wax on the beautiful, bare skin.
